Brand Identity

1) Create a Compelling Magazine Cover:

How are you going to make your front cover visually appealing to the reader from six feet away?

Make the front cover colourful and eye catching so that it draws in the audiences attention, having interesting bold cover lines that attract the audience to make them want to read the magazine. Make the main image of the magazine different to the other magazines so that it stands out. Use colours that are linked to the genre of the magazine such as yellow, blue etc to make it clear to the readers what the genre of the house is. Use a short interesting title that can stick in the readers mind and make it clear to them what the magazine will include. Keep a consistent layout so that the magazine is easy for the readers to find.

What design ideas do you already have?

Use dark colours as it is a convention of house music magazines.

Which masthead have you decided to use – what does the layout and language suggest about the brand identity you are trying to create?

The masthead I have decided to use is:
The language I have used is alliteration and the word 'trippin' is an abbreviation, young people also call a good song a tune so this could show it appeals to a younger audience. The layout of the masthead has DJ decks behind the words to show that the magazine is about house music. The colours I've used are dark which fit the conventions of other house music magazines.

2. Focus Content On Your Target Audience:

Features of magazine

Chart of house music
Advertisements of events readers would be interested in
New upcoming artists

Can you explain your niche and how you will ensure content appeal to audience?

Usually male aged around 24, they have disposable income and rarely watch TV, they are always up to date with the latest fashion trends, artists and tracks. Spend a lot of time on going out to new clubs.

3) Choose a Graphic Design That Reflects Your Magazine's Purpose

4) Respond to your Changing Audience

Outline, in detail, who your target audience are.

The target audience will be a mixture of males and females and the average age will be 17-25. They have a high disposable income and a tendency to spend it on: nights out, clothes, songs, the latest mobile or mp3 player. They're the most informed about new singles and upcoming artists, they spend their weekends going out (rarely stay in). They are always updated with the latest trends and singles.

5) Brand Beyond the Pages

Can you consider how you might develop your brand outside of the actual magazine itself?

Organize a branded event for readers of the magazine.

Answers to questions

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (What have you included that we would expect to see on a magazine front cover?)
My school magazine follows the conventions of a real school magazine because it includes a logo, a masthead, main image and cover lines which are the elements you would expect to find on any magazine. However my main image challenges the forms and conventions of a school magazine because it is of the lockers in school and not an actual student or teacher. I used it because the lockers are associated with the school because they are red which is one of the school colours and everyone around school would recognise and associate them with Plantsbrook. My logo is the school tie which also has the school motto ‘be the best you can be’ written on it, this follows the conventions because it is what you would expect to find on a school magazine because it specifically relates to the school and people would easily recognise it. The cover lines also follow the conventions of a school magazine because they are also directly related to the school and the students would know and understand what they are about and be interested in them.

Technologies

Tubechop is a good website to use when editing a video for example a trailer because you can easily crop and edit a video.
Prezi is a good tool to use when presenting work because you can pick any template you want and it makes work look more professional and easy to read however it can be difficult to use when first going on it but when you get used to it, it becomes easy to use.
